Customer Counseling 101 . . . notes from the Art Department:
Some might say that I'm "wasting time" supplying design variations of what the
customer wants (instead of force feeding the first thing that pops into my mind down
the customer's throat). My goal is to create effective design that the customer also
likes. If the logo or design doesn't "sell their product, event or company", even if the
customer "liked it" at first, I'll never see them again.
Commercial art has a measurable purpose. A customer brought me a "homemade"
digital file last week, he wanted 288 T-shirts imprinted. I told him, "NO, you'll never sell that." It was just horrible. He was a previous customer & trusted my judgement, to hear what I had to say & to see what I would propose instead. After re-tooling the basic idea the design was 100% better. He agreed.
If customers succeed in their endeavors, they'll be back.
